What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a specific pressure technique based on the principle that reflexes in the feet and hands correspond to every part of the body.
The feet are mirrored in miniature with all the structures and organs of the body. The body is divided into ten longitudinal zones running the entire length of the body. Organs and structures found in the right side of the body will be found in the right foot and all organs and structures found in the left hand side of the body will be found in the left foot. Therefore treating both feet can have a relaxing and healing effect on the body.
A Reflexologist uses only their hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet. Sensitive, trained hands can detect tiny deposits in the feet which block vital energy pathways. By releasing these tiny obstructions, toxins are eliminated, thus improving circulation and encourages the body to heal itself allowing the bodies systems to work in unison again.
What happens during a Reflexology treatment?
At your first appointment you will be asked questions about your health and lifestyle, this is an important aspect of treatment as it is beneficial for the therapist to have an understanding of all factors that may be affecting your health including how you feel physically and emotionally.
Treatment takes place with you sitting in a semi-

(continued)
with a relaxing foot massage.
The initial treatment takes approximately 75 minutes this allows time for the consultation. There after the treatment takes between 40 and 45 minutes although you should allow one hour that gives you and the therapist time to review the progress.
Who can be helped by a Reflexology Treatment?
Most people can benefit from a Reflexology treatment and there is no minimum or maximum age limit. Suffers of the following conditions have reported benefits from Reflexology treatment, varying from P.M.S., Sciatica, Sinusitis, Aches and pains to digestive disorders, the list is endless.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person, often some effects are felt after just one treatment but a series of treatments may be needed to make significant change in condition. Typically a client may choose to visit weekly until a consistent improvement is recorded, progressing to fortnightly and then monthly intervals. After a course of treatments is over a client may choose to come regularly to help maintain health.
Origins
This therapy is believed to be as old as history itself. It was first documented pictorially by the Egyptians dating back to 2330bc and was practised in India and China more than three thousand years ago. In 1913, an American Physician Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the west with the concept of zone theory.
In the 1930’s a lady named Eunice Ingham was intrigued by Dr Fitzgerald’s theory and developed it further into Reflexology, as we know it today.
